SECTION 8 HOMEBUYER PROGRAM

Did you know you may have the opportunity to use your Section 8 Housing Choice rental voucher toward the purchase of your own home?  It’s true!  Families who qualify for the program according to HUD guidelines may be eligible to use the housing assistance payment through Section 8 toward a mortgage payment instead of for rent.  If your total annual income as reported to your Section 8 caseworker is at or above the HUD requirement for homeownership (minimum wage times 2000 hours), you may wish to contact your Section 8 caseworker for additional information. 

SECTION 8 VOUCHER HOMEBUYER PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Families wishing to use their Section 8 voucher for Homeownership must meet the following:

1.    Must have completed one year on the Muskogee Section 8 rental program and be in good standing;

2.    Must be current with all rent and utility payments

3.    Must be a first-time homebuyer;

4.    Must complete the credit screening process;

5.    Must have at least one family member employed according to the program policy;

6.    Must have completed a certified Homebuyer Education course;

7.    Must comply with all Homeownership program requirements.
